BREAKING: Leeds United have sacked Marcelo Bielsa after humiliating Premier League defeats

English club Leeds United has announced that they have sacked manager Marcelo Bielsa.

The club confirms the sacking of their coach through the statement on their website on February 27, 2022, the club has decided to part ways. It reads,

“Leeds United can today confirm the club have parted company with head coach Marcelo Bielsa.The 66-year-old was in charge of the team for over three-and-a-half years, having taken the reins in June 2018.”

Why did Leeds sack Bielsa?

The Argentine coach was with the team since 2018 and helped the team to advance to the Premier League after 16 years. Marcelo Bielsa was a very popular figure at Leeds with his charisma and style of play. Many fans referred to him as Godfather and savior of the club, he was a fan favorite. After an excellent first season on the top flight, the performance this season was not good enough.

The 2021/22 season of the Leeds is not going well as they are in the 16th position in the EPL table. Leeds United lost 4 games in a row with humiliating scorelines. The recent 0-4 loss to struggling Tottenham Hotspur at Elland Road was Marcelo Bielsa’s final nail in a coffin.

In their last 6 matches, they only got 1 point out of 18. They scored only 5 goals while 21 goals were scored against them. Besides Tottenham and Liverpool, they were also defeated by Manchester United, Everton, and Newcastle United.

The only point they got was against Aston Villa which was a 3-3 draw.

Who will replace Marcelo Bielsa at Leeds?

The Argentine coach, Bielsa Marcelo is set to be replaced by the former RB Leipzig’s head coach Jesse Marsch. Though it has not been confirmed about the possible replacement, the former MLS midfielder is just a step away from being the head coach at Leeds United.
