After the Kopa trophy has been awarded to the Spanish footballer Gavi, fans hugely criticized the decision as they think there were other better players who deserved better and label it as the DAYLIGHT ROBBERY.
Gavi wins the Kopa trophy
Spanish and Barcelona’s 17-year-old Pablo Martin Gavira aka Gavi has won the Kopa trophy 2022. With the title, Gavi became the second Spanish and Barca football player to do so. Surprisingly, no Real Madrid player has done it till now.
What is the Kopa trophy?
Kopa Trophy is a football award presented by France football and is awarded to the best player that is under the age of 21. Unlike the Golden Boy award, the Kopa trophy can be won by any player who does not play in Europe.
The Kopa trophy is chosen based on the votes of the former Ballon D’Or winners and started in 2018. Kylian Mbappe at PSG became the first player to win the trophy beating Christian Pulisic and Justin Kluivert from Roma.
Similarly, Matthis de Ligt won the trophy after having a sensational season with Ajax making their way to the semi-final of the UEFA Champions League. Jadon Sancho and Joao Felix were ranked second and third consecutively.
Last year, Pedri won the trophy beating Jude Bellingham and Jamal Musiala from Borussia Dortmund and Bayern respectively.
Fans’ Reaction to Gavi winning the trophy ahead of Camaving, Musiala, and Jude Bellingham
Fans have been furious that Gavi won the award this season as he had no memorable performance worth winning titles. Additionally, he went trophyless with both the club and the country, so, fans think he did not deserve the Kopa trophy.
Similarly, Camavinga had a phenomenal season with Real Madrid as he was part of the team that won the Champions League and Laliga in his first season with the club.
Bellingham who was the runner-up in 2021 too had a memorable performance with Borussia Dortmund. Similarly, Jamal Musiala won almost everything with Bayern Munich the last season making 14 goal contributions for the club in 40 appearances. In contrast to that, Gavi made just 8 goal contributions in 48 appearances in the 2021/22 season.
Despite such huge differences, fans can’t believe that Gavi has been named for the trophy and they have been fuming over the internet.
