Belgium’s Romelo Lukaku has missed 3 sitters against Croatia that denied their victory against Croatia. It has resulted in the team being knocked out of the Group stage of the World Cup.
Lukaku came on the pitch right after the second half started in the 46th minute replacing midfielder Dries Mertens. Belgium coach Roberto Martinez had faith in the Inter striker which has gone horribly wrong as he missed 3 open chances in the second half.
The first noticeable miss came in the 60th minute. Kevin De Bruyne passed the ball towards Carrasco who hit the ball straightly to the keeper and the ball bounced back to Lukaku. Romelo made a low shot but unfortunately, it hit the right post.
Not more than a minute after the miss, Lukaku again missed a free header. De Bruyne kept on with the ball from the tight corner which was headed by Croatia’s Lovren. The ball straightly reached the striker. However, despite goalkeeper Livakovic being seen far from his position, Lukaku somehow managed to put the ball outside of the net. MISERABLE.
Later in the 89th minute, Lukaku again missed an open post crossed by Thorgan Hazard. Lovren failed to clear the ball crossed from the right side, as the ball reached Romelo. He had a chance to make 1-0 for Belgium. But couldn’t; as he hit the ball with his chest and the ball was caught by the keeper.
Even Thierry Henry acknowledged the miss of Lukaku as he went to console the player after the final whistle.
