Following the poor defensive display at the start of the season, Manchester City is already set to sign Dortmund’s Center back Manuel Akanji.
Manchester City and Borussia Dortmund have agreed on a fee worth around €17.5million. The fee is believed to be reasonable in the burning football transfer market because Akanji has only a year left on the current contract.
Manchester City already has more than enough center backs which includes the likes of Ruben Dias, Aymeric Laporte, John Stones, and Nathan Ake. But the manager Pep Guardiola felt the need to restrengthen position ahead of a long season.
Manchester City has kept only one clean sheet as of now which was against West Ham United. Also, Aymeric Laporte and John Stones have been in and out of the squad with injuries in the past. This is believed to be the reason for Pep wanting yet another body at the back.
The 27 years old Swiss international made a total of 36 appearances for Dortmund last season enjoying abundant game time. But it’s not sure how Pep intends to utilize Manuel at Man City. Only time will tell!
