Newcastle United has agreed with a deal to sign Alexander Isak from Real Sociedad. The deal is worth in the region of £60million (€71.2m) and the forward’s move to St James’ Park is now thought to be imminent.
The 22-year-old Sweden international becomes Newcastle’s record signing, ahead of Bruno Guimaraes. He joined Real Sociedad from Borussia Dortmund three years ago and has scored 44 goals in 132 appearances.
Dan Ashworth, Newcastle’s sporting director, and Steve Nickson, the club head of recruitment, are in Spain as they look to complete the move. A source at the La Liga club said:
If this deal goes through it will be a record for both clubs.
If Isak completes his move to St James’ Park, he will become Newcastle’s fourth signing of the summer, following the arrivals of Sven Botman, Matt Targett, and Nick Pope.
