When football icon Lionel Messi moved from Barcelona to PSG, every football fan on the planet was shocked. Messi himself was not too happy about the situation and therefore had a poor 2021/22 season by his standards.
Finally, after a year Lionel Messi seemed to train happily in the PSG colors ahead of their first pre-season game against Kawasaki in Japan. The footage of the team training shows that Messi is now comfortable with his new club which he joined in August last year from his beloved club Barcelona.
Following his underwhelming debut season in France, in which he scored just 11 goals in 34 matches, Messi has stated that he wants to show what he is capable of in the 2022/23 campaign. While his prowess in front of the goal was not up to his usual standards last season, the 35-year-old did manage to provide 15 assists for his teammates.
The PSG’s new manager Christophe Galtier, meanwhile, has provided a small bit of insight into what it has been like working with Messi since he replaced Mauricio Pochettino at the Parc des Princes.
Speaking in May, the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner insisted he is determined to “reverse” his fortunes in Paris, declaring that the coming season would be different. The French champions are preparing for the new season with a training camp in Japan. Fans believe that the next season will be better than the last year and bring something new to the club.
Major League Soccer (MLS) side Inter Miami has made it very clear that they want to sign Lionel Messi. MLS has become a popular destination for aging stars to wind down their career and many feel that Messi will eventually end up doing the same.
But he is staying in Paris for the next season. Messi is under contract with Paris Saint-Germain until the summer of 2023 and the Ligue 1 champions have been clear that they want to keep him at the club for another year beyond that.
What do you think? Will Messi bring something different to PSG this season?
